My first composition teacher was my father, a distinguished organist and church musician, who maintained an interest in the new, even when it was not to his liking, his entire life. He was the first person to perform my music, often with his church choir in Buffalo, New York. Of the many pieces I wrote for him, this one retains an echo of his belief in me.
