Five Songs
Date of Composition: 1994-2013
Duration: 11'
Category: Duo
Instrumentation: Soprano, Piano
Five Songs is a collection, not a cycle, though there are common threads of connections between the poems.
The are all from the 19th C, when poetry was commonly read, and they are all in their own way "bright"
poems. The tragic note is not sounded.
1. The Lake Isle of Innisfree (William Butler Yates)
2. Let Us Play Yesterday (Emily Dickinson)
3. There is No God (Arthur Hugh Clough)
4. The Grasshopper and the Cricket (John Keats)
5. Pied Beauty (Gerard Manley Hopkins).
The recording is of the fifth song.
Five Songs has been recorded by Delea Shand, soprano and Nils Vigeland on a CD “Songs of Nils Vigeland” available on Apple Music , Spotify and YouTube
